tulip festivities
Yesterday we spent the day with Koze's Gramy and G.G. (my mom and grandma). We had breakfast at The Country Cat and then headed off to the The Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm for the Tulip Festival. Koze thought that running through the tulip field was okay. And he seemed to be enjoying himself when we went on the cow train ride. But the highlight of his day was anytime he found a rock to pick up. He's way into rocks these days...usually he finds them on our walks and will bring two home with him. We've started a nice collection in the kitchen. There were a lot of fun things for kids at the festival but I think he may have been a bit too young for them this year. We'll have to come back next year...

Tomatoes!!!
I just noticed these guys coming through this evening. I was planning on replanting this pot because I accidentally used regular potting soil instead of seeding soil. I'm really happy that I hadn't gotten around to it yet. These are the first seeds to come up. I've planted broccoli, kale, carrots, zucchini, summer squash, pumpkins, cucumbers and a TON of basil and cilantro.

The Beginning
I am beyond interested in this urban farming trend that we have going on in Portland. I really think its much more than a trend...perhaps its more of a movement. But anyhow, one of the (many) reasons I chose this apartment that we are now in was for the huge garden space that it came with. Today I planted my first indoor start - red bell peppers. I guess the trick to getting these guys to actually turn red is to start a little early with them. SO here we go. Hoping for some nourishing and delicious RED bell peppers!

Magic
If I could sum up my idea of the perfect childhood with one word, that would be it. Magic. One of my favorite stories as a kid was Peter Pan, with the lost boys and pirates and fairies - endless inspiration for a game of make-believe. And it never hurt to have an awesome fort involved.
The first time I saw the Royal Tenenbaums I knew I wanted to make something like Richie's fort for my future kid(s).

and here's another cool space that I loved...if only my apartment was big enough to accommodate a house. :)

So when I saw this the other day I became instantly obsessed with making a teepee for Koze. A place that will be his own cozy, magic filled space and that will hopefully nurture his imagination and creativity. So this is my project for the spring. Koze's teepee.
